The Nobel Foundation was created by Alfred Nobel, the inventor of dynamite, to manage his estate and award prizes for academic achievement in several areas: Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Literature, and Peace. The Bank of Sweden Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel was added later.
