A lawyer in the United States is technically called an attorney at law or an attorney-at-law. In some states a lawyer is called an attorney and counsellor at law (or attorney and counselor at law).
The American legal system has a united (or fused) legal profession, and does not draw a distinction between lawyers who plead in court and those who do not. Many other common law jurisdictions, as well as the civil law jurisdictions, have a separation, such as the solicitor and barrister/advocate split in the United Kingdom and the advocate/civil law notary split in France. There is also no delegation of routine work to notaries public.

National Association of Prosecutor Coordinators - NAPC provides a forum for exchanging ideas and information to benefit state prosecutor coordinators and prosecutors. This site includes information on members, upcoming meetings, and a PDF version of the NAPC Newsbreak newsletter.
National College of District Attorneys - NCDA provides continuing legal education and training for prosecutors, organizing training sessions in cities around the United States. This site includes course schedules and descriptions, and information on what's new at the College.
National Criminal Justice Association - NCJA is a Washington, D.C.-based special interest group that focuses primarily on helping develop and implement national policy in the criminal justice field and on helping states address criminal justice-related problems. This site includes a list of the state agencies represented on the association, highlights from the Justice Bulletin, and criminal justice-related links.
National District Attorneys Association - NDAA works both legislatively and through publications and training programs to provide a voice for prosecutors and useful information for prosecutors. This site includes press releases, information on publications such as the National Prosecution Standards, and news of the organization.
