The term conference can be used to describe any meeting of people that "confer " about a certain topic.
- Academic conference, in science and academia, a formalized event where researchers present their results in speeches, workshops or by other means
- Business conference, an event organized to discuss a pressing issue
- Conference call, in telecommunications, is referred to as a "multi-party call".
- A conference room is a place where conferences are held.
- International conference, in politics, a multilateral diplomatic negotiation or a Party conference
- In Christianity, a conference is a series of meetings to discuss topics related to the church.
- A Methodist or Catholic Conference is a formal meeting of church leaders.

- Football Conference, in English association football, consists of:
- Conference National, the fifth tier of the league system
- Conference North and Conference South, which together form the sixth tier
- In college athletics
