George M. Dallas - Encyclopedia Americana - George Mifflin Dallas, (1792-1864), born in Philadelphia, Pa., on July 10, 1792. He graduated from Princeton in 1810 and became an attorney. He was elected vice president on the Democratic ticket with James Polk in 1844 and presided over the Senate during the stormy days of the Mexican War and the Wilmot Proviso controversy.
